Tools You Can’t Live Without: Google Notebook
By micah | July 11, 2007
This is our second phase of Tools You Can’t Live Without. These are highly useful Web 2.0 applications designed to increase your productivity. This week we are highlighting Google Notebook. Be sure to check out our previous review of Remember the Milk.
Google Notebook, as it’s name suggests, is a notebook application. There are many uses for notebook applications in everyday life. Personally, I like to use them to plan out projects or flesh out any ideas that I might have.
There are many note-taking applications out there, both on and off line. The obvious features of being fast, user-friendly, and secure are absolute must-haves for me. I need features that go above and beyond these. Here are several reasons of why Google Notebook is a tool I can’t live without.
- It’s Online: I personally prefer my productivity tools to be online applications instead of desktop apps. The reason being that I switch between Operating Systems a lot. It is much more efficient to have all your data stored and to sync to an online source. This way you can take your precious ideas anywhere and never worry about losing it.
- Easily Accessed: A huge plus for me in online applications is when they are easily accessed. I find it to be a big pain to have to log into a site, go to my account, and then do what I originally wanted to do. Those are wasted steps. This is where Google Notebook comes in handy. Google has created a special web browser extension. With this extension, you can access previously created notes or create new notes with the single click of a button. All in one easy step … Genius!
- Sharable: Sharing capabilities is a big advantage online apps have over desktop apps. In cases where you have to work with someone over the internet, note-sharing is essential. For example, Alex and I were brainstorming over the weekend. We were able to share one common notebook between us and read/edit any notes posted by the other person.
There you have it, the features that make Google Notebook a tool you just can’t live without. Go ahead and take a stab at it. If you already have a gmail account, then you’re already setup and ready to go with Google Notebook.
